a 4 minute read...
in my previous post i said im a full time business owner. i like to think of it as more of a full time hobbyist. for as long as i can remember ive always been documenting things through a camera. capturing things that dont last forever so that they will last forever. as i got older i began to realize that people will pay you money to recreate those moments for them. people paying you to do something you love is something i cant really explain. something youll have to figure out for yourself. i can say that truly enjoying what you do is crucial to working long hours. the reason for this post is to hopefully encourage you to pursue your passion, and monetize your hobby. i truly believe all hobbies can be monetized. if you like knitting, knit something, post it on the gram telling people the story behind it and that its for sale. you get to do what you love in your spare time and make an extra buck doing it. the beauty of social media is theres no longer the excuse of not being able to show the world your hobby/product. if it doesnt gain much attention dont get discouraged keep pushing product and eventually someone worth your while will stubble upon your page. after all if youre not posting things no one will see your passion. it kills me to see people hiding their work. i recently found someone who is passionate about photography but is caught up with a job and children and says she just doesnt have time for it. i have no clue the struggle that comes with children and i can assume they require a ton of time and attention, but if your passion is photography and you have children, youre in an incredible position, take your kids to the park, bring your camera, and take tons of candid pictures and post them to your socials telling people you take pictures. if your kids are involved in sports and you spend weekends at the ball park, even better. bring your camera and take pics of your little johnny at bat, as well as so and sos kid pitching or kims son at short stop and now you have product to sell to other parents. what im getting at is you can place your passion in just about any situation that you say is stopping you from pursuing it and make money a coin off of it. if you enjoy doing makeup, find a friend or family member who is getting married this year or someone going to prom, offer to do their makeup for free, create an instagram containing shots of makeup youve done, and once these people get their pictures taken by photographers ask them to tag your page on the pics they post. now even more people know that you do makeup and can see your work. you get the point. All it requires is a little thought and not selling yourself short. you just have to simply do what you love and let the world know you do what you do. if i can it, you can do it. well matt youre only 22 you have all the time in the world to pursue your passion, the world hasn't sucked everything out of you yet, youre in college and dont have all the responsibilities of an adult like me. so its harder for me than it is for you. easier said than done. if this is the case more than likely you dont know i am. i like to think that time is one of my most valuable assets. people pay me money for my time. time is something that will only run out when you die. until then regardless of how busy you may think your life is you have all the time in the world to pursue your passion. i feel like the reason most people dont want the extra hours of work is because they dont want to give up leisure time, or sleep. some nights you do lose some sleep, but overall theres still so much time left over. theres 24 hrs in a day. lets say you sleep 6 of those (thats all the sleep you really need in my opinion) and you work 8 hours at your day job and lets give 4 hours after work to spend with your kids, do homework, cook dinner, watch game of thrones, etc. That still leaves you with 6 whole hours every single day to pursue your passion. thats 30 hours a week, almost another full time job, doing what you love. its incredible what you can really do. it all comes with time management and priorities. i hope this is somewhat beneficial to even just one person. as ive said before i want this to become a community of likeminded people, use the comments section to interact with me and others. dont hesitate to the tell the world how you feel. feel free to email, call, or text me. ill list my contact below. im a big fan of talking to people. as always much love.
